Daily.SG lets readers weigh in on every story. Here is how a vote works, how we keep it honest, and what the numbers do — and do not — mean.
How a vote works
Every story carries one question. Tap Agree or Disagree, and your single tap is counted as the live tally updates in place. You see the split between the two sides — but the result is the room’s opinion, not a score we assign.
One vote per identity
Each reader gets a single, signed, server-issued identity — a signed cookie if you are browsing anonymously, or your account if you are signed in. We count one vote per identity per story. Because that identity is derived on the server, a vote cannot be forged or replayed from the browser.
Keeping it fair
We apply per-network limits and watch for anomalous bursts — for example, many “fresh” identities appearing from one source and voting in lockstep. When a pattern looks coordinated rather than organic, we discount it, so a small group cannot drown out genuine readers.
Votes reflect reader sentiment, not factual accuracy.
A high Agree percentage means many readers agree — it is not a fact-check, an endorsement, or a measure of whether a claim is true. Treat the tally as the room’s mood on a question, and read the story for the facts.
